David was born and raised in Chatham, Ontario. David attended the University of Western Ontario in 1979 - 1980, and obtained his Bachelor of Laws degree in 1984 at Queens University.
After articling in Ottawa, in 1986 he returned to southwestern Ontario to join the London law firm of MacKewn, Smeenk, Winder, Leach. He became in partner with MacKewn, Winder, Kirwin (MWK) in 1990 where he practiced until January 1, 2003 when he merged his practice with that of Bitz Szemenyei Ferguson and MacKenzie to form Szemenyei Kirwin MacKenzie LLP. David has served as an adjunct professor at the University of Western Ontario, where he taught the Commercial Law Course and as the senior instructor in the insolvency section of the Bar Admission Course in London. David has been appointed to the Solicitor Advisory Group for the Licensing Process, an advisory group established by the Law Society of Upper Canada.
David is also very active in the community. He has served previously on the Board of Directors of London Crimestoppers Inc., the London and Area Food Bank, the Rotary Club of London South and the London Squash Racquets Club. He is currently President of the Board of the Boys and Girls Club of London Foundation.
He lives in London, Ontario with his wife Janice and children Sarah, Jason and Sam.
